Choosing a School

If your child has SEND but does not have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), then you should follow the usual admissions process. You can find more information on this on our School Admissions page.

Parent/carer's and young people have the right to choose a particular school as part of the EHCP process. When you are issued with your draft EHCP, the LA will also provide you with a form to list your preferred school/s.

right to request any of the following types of school or college:

  • A maintained school or nursery (mainstream or special)
  • An Academy (mainstream or special)
  • An institution in the Further Education sector
  • A non-maintained special school
  • A section 41 school (see GOV.UK page for more infromation)

These are listed in section 38(3) of the Children and Families Act (“CAFA”) 2014         

If you want to make a change of placement, this can be discussed at the next EHCP annual review or you can call for an early review of the plan.
